The Eclectics and Triple Fiddle
This evening's show features two bands based in traditional music, but with intriguing specialties. Triple Fiddle? They do just what you are thinking, a lot of music arranged for three voices and three fiddles. But what a broad stylistic range! The trio brings new spins on Honky Tonk, swing and other roots traditions, plus puts forth original music.

The Eclectics
Then there’s the Eclectics. This bluegrass trio does everything from straight up versions of songs from the likes of Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs. But then they’ll slip in original songs inspired by such bucolic scenes as meadows and valleys….and also by the post-modern world, such as the New York subway. And just for fun, the Eclectics delivers unexpected music from Tin Pan alley. The Ginkgo’s show by Triple Fiddle and the Eclectics will be 7-9pm, Oct 4. It is bound to be an evening of new wine in old bottles. (Or is is old wine in new bottles?) See you there.
The Eclectics are bassist John Bergquist, banjoist Phil Nusbaum and fiddler Nick Martin. The name Eclectics reflects the trio’s broad stylistic footprint, including traditional bluegrass, pop songs everybody knows, plus envelope-pushing originals. They entertain with great context and wit, for audiences that enjoy the combination of familiar and surprising. Ask about “Inside Bluegrass,” during which the Eclectics tell audiences how a bluegrass group is organized, and play plenty of examples demonstrating the points made.

Triple Fiddle
Three powerhouse local fiddle players — Rachel Calvert (Barbaro), Maura Dunst (The Foxgloves), and Tessa Nichols-Meade (Ryan Picone Quartet)— join forces to create Triple Fiddle: a collaboration of sensational triple fiddle harmonies and lusciously layered vocals. This fiddle-forward trio presents soaring arrangements of originals and covers from honky tonk, swing, folk, and roots music traditions.
